Poster design for the surreal drama short film 'Aristeia' written, directed, and produced by Michael McLennan for Wavelength films. The poster will be used to promote the films distribution at international film festivals.
"Colour aberration, distorted lighting and aged texture are inspired by the film's dreamy and nostalgic tone and Korean film poster art that creates a sense of dislocation from reality."
'Aristeia' is a short drama about an aspiring dancer who dreams of another girl dancing on stage. Unexpectedly, she sees dancer she dreamed of on a train and confronts her, hoping that finding this dancer will answer her question about the future. Surreal dream sequences are intercut with the protagonists story, leading the audience to question what is real and imagined.
The design approach stemmed from Writer/Director Michael McLennan's love of the film's central dance dream sequence. After collecting several poster references from Korean cinema, I drew colours and lighting effects from this scene and created a filter to add to layered stills from the film.
