Poster design for a satirical horror film 'The Holy Path' to promote its film festival run in Australia and internationally.
'The Holy Path' is short satirical horror film about newly moved-in couple, Hunter and Olivia, who struggle to navigate their relationship with Evelyn, Olivia’s very disapproving and overly-religious mother. When a mysterious hole appears in the floor of their apartment, things start to heat up. The film was a Victorian College of the Arts (VCA) graduation project created by a mixture of VCA students and professional filmmakers, helmed by Writer/Director Caitlin Soennichsen. It begins its festival run end of 2022.
Writer/Director Caitlin Soennichsen came to me with the idea to create the poster based on her favourite 1980's films that inspired the story. After collecting a reference posters including 'Ghostbusters' and 'Jurassic Park', as well as looking at the posters for films that had been accepted into the film festivals Caitlin was targeting, I came up with a few mockups of the design. To create the poster art, I spliced together several shots from the film and added extra imagery to flesh out the design and make its visual references to 'Jurassic Park' clear. A series of Photoshop effects transformed a daytime still of the church into a spooky nighttime location perfect for selling the hilarious story.
