Poster design and social media banner and backgrounds for the Australian premiere of surreal financial thriller 'Labyrinth' at Flight Path Theatre, produced by Dreamplane Productions.
"A warm colour grade, glossy cheekbone highlights and extra contrast sends this poster back in time to the 1970's."
'Labyrinth' is a surreal and frightening retelling of the Latin American debt crisis of 1979-1982 written by UK playwright Beth Steel. Dreamplane Productions brought the Australian premiere of the play to life at Flight Path Theatre, produced by Angus Evans and directed by Margaret Thanos. It comments on cycles of privatisation, debt collection and the rich becoming richer that dominate Wall Street borrowing from The Big Short and The Wolf of Wall Street to create an ensemble theatre piece.
I worked alongside Angus and Margaret as they developed the play and set design to create a design concept that could work across a poster, Flight Path Theatre website and social media posts. I built the poster around a photo shoot directed by photographer Claire Hawely to reference a glossy, high contrast 1970's magazine cover. I developed a colour palette for the social media and corresponding backgrounds using Claire's photography and sourced imagery and adjusted them to match 'Labyrinth's colour palette.
"Green marble was used as a background to market the play, and decorated the set floor for 'Labyrinth'."
